Frequently asked questions
What is a tool call?
A tool call is one successful execution of a Datatape tool by an AI agent. When Claude or GPT calls your MCP endpoint and a tool runs a query, that's one tool call. Failed calls (errors, timeouts) are not counted.
How does the 7-day free trial work?
You get the same limits as the Developer plan — 1,000 tool calls, 1 connection, 5 tools, and 1 MCP server. No credit card required. At the end of the trial, upgrade to Developer ($29/mo) or higher to continue.
Who is the Developer plan for?
The Developer plan is for solo developers building and evaluating AI agents. It includes everything you need to go from prototype to production with 1,000 tool calls per month. When you need team collaboration or more resources, upgrade to Team.
What happens when I hit my tool call limit?
On the Developer plan, tool calls stop at 1,000 — there are no surprise charges. On Team and Scale, you'll receive alerts at 50%, 80%, and 100% of your included calls, then overage charges apply automatically. You can set a hard spend cap on any plan.
Can I switch plans?
Yes. Upgrade at any time and the change takes effect immediately. If you downgrade, the change takes effect at the next billing cycle. Your tools, connections, and data are never deleted.
What databases do you support?
Developer and Team include PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Google Sheets. Scale and Enterprise add Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift. We're adding more databases based on customer demand.
When should I consider Enterprise?
If you need SSO, VPC / private deployment, custom domains, SCIM provisioning, a BAA for HIPAA compliance, or an SLA — Enterprise is the right choice. Most companies that require IT or security team approval need Enterprise.
